Two Teenagers Arrested After Shots Fired In Kalamazoo Neighborhood

kzoopolicestockKALAMAZOO, Mich.- Two teenagers are in custody after shots were fired Saturday night in Kalamazoo. 

According to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, shots were fired in the area of James Street and Lake Street in Kalamazoo. After officers got descriptions of the suspects, the suspects were spotted in the 1400 block of Lay Blvd. Then officers searched the area around the suspects, locating two loaded handguns hidden underneath a parked vehicle. Officers recovered a 38 cal Smith & Wesson, which was reported stolen in Flint Township, and a .22 caliber Ruger which was reported stolen in Kalamazoo County. 

The first suspect a 17-year-old male from Kalamazoo was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, felon in possession of  a firearm and probation violation. The second suspect a 16-year-old male from Kalamazoo was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a stolen firearm. 

Additional charges of reckless discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm under the age of 18 will be submitted to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s office.
