GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Plans will be submitted this spring for a new hotel in downtown Grand Rapids, a developer announced Monday.

CWD Real Estate Investment released an artist rendering of the hotel, which remains nameless. The company said it is talking with Amway Hotel Corporation to manage the hotel. AHC manages the Amway Grand Hotel, the JW Marriott, and the Courtyard Marriott, all downtown Grand Rapids landmarks.

CWD Proposed Hotel – Artist RenderingConstruction is planned to begin in fall 2014 at the site, which is currently a parking lot at the corner of Monroe Avenue and Louis Street NW. That would put six hotels within walking distance of DeVos Place, where the area’s largest conventions and trade shows are held.

The hotel will probably contain several extended stay rooms, including kitchen areas, for guests who stay five nights are more, a first in downtown Grand Rapids, a release said. The building will likely include space for retail and restaurants and will have the potential for residential units.

The architect of the hotel was done by Kulapat Yantrasast, who designed the Grand Rapids Art Museum.
