GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Feb 4, 2014) — After a couple of generally dry and quiet days of weather around West Michigan, snow will return and cause some slow driving conditions for especially the Wednesday morning commute.

A potent storm system will pass well to the south of the region Tuesday night.  West Michigan will be on the northern fringe of the snow from this area of low pressure, with the heaviest bands setting up through much of Indiana and Ohio.  Snow will be expected to develop early Tuesday evening south of I-94 and spread northward into the overnight hours.  Most of the snow will fall between midnight Tuesday night and about 9AM Wednesday.

Even though the total snowfall will not be extremely heavy around the FOX 17 viewing area, there will be some bursts of heavier snow that last into the Wednesday morning commute.  This will slow things down quite a bit, even in areas that miss the heaviest snowfall.

Totals will range from only an inch or two north of Grand Rapids to as much as three to six inches south of I-94.  Most areas in West Michigan will fall in the two- to four-inch range of snow amounts.  With not much wind expected, and temperatures holding near 20° through Wednesday afternoon, we should start to see improving road conditions by late in the day Wednesday.

A few lake-effect snow showers will result in only minor accumulations Wednesday night into Thursday, but colder than average temperatures will continue through the weekend.  You can find the rest of the 7 Day Forecast on the Weather page.
