Family: Missing Mother & Child from Detroit Found in Texas

DETROIT MISSING GIRL for webDETROIT, Mich (February 6, 2014) – A missing 5-year-old that police believed had been taken by her non-custodial mother has been located safely in Texas according to a published report from WJBK in Detroit.

5-year-old Zoie Jackson and her mother Carmela Jackson were reported missing on Monday after police believed Carmela had picked up the girl from school and was possibly heading to Elkhart, Indiana through West Michigan.

Prior to the disappearance, Carmela had been diagnosed with Schizophrenia, Bi-Polar and postpartum depression.  Carmela was only allowed four-hour monthly, supervised visits with Zoie.

FOX 2 in Detroit reports Zoie is the daughter of a Detroit police officer who has full custody of her. The day she was taken he was undergoing surgery and is currently bedridden.

FOX 2 is reporting Zoie’s family has learned the 5-year-old has been found safe in Texas.  No other details were immediately released.
