GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Feb 7, 2014) —  As of Friday evening, the snowfall total in Grand Rapids is just over 90 inches for the season. This already places this winter as the 14th snowiest on record. With plenty of winter left, there is no doubt we will crack the top three. Here is a list of the five snowiest winters on record in Grand Rapids:

  1. 132.0″ in 1951-52
  2. 107.0″ in 2007-08
  3. 105.2″ in 2001-02
  4. 104.9″ in 2008-09
  5. 104.7″ in 1958-59

Our current total is 90.1″. What that means is with another 14.6″, this winter will be among the five snowiest on record.  With another 16.9″, it will be ranked second.

It’s not out of the realm of possibility that this will end up as the snowiest winter on record. That record is 132.0″, set in the winter of 1951-52. All we would need is another 42″.
