Ionia Prison Escapee Speaks To The Free Press

IONIA, Mich. (Feb. 8th, 2014)-  Michael Elliot told the Detroit Free Press “It was relatively simple” escaping from the Ionia Correctional Facility in a phone interview with the Detroit Newspaper.

Elliot told the Free Press that he wore a couple of layers of white thermals underneath his blue uniform. Elliot also had white gloves, white shoes, and a white ski mask made from thermal material. “As soon as they turned their back a little bit, I dove in the snow and crawled to the path I had in mind,” Elliot told the Detroit Free Press.

Elliot also said that whenever he saw a guard he would bury himself in the snow and didn’t move. “Any time I seen anybody I stopped,” he said.

Michael Elliot was in the Ionia Corrections Facility after being convicted of four murders in Gladwin County,  near Rhodes, Michigan.

Two prison employees have been suspended following the escape. Michael Elliot was caputured in LaPorte, Indiana after a 24 hour search.
