GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Feb 14, 2014) — The cold winter continues across the Midwest, and so does the buildup of ice on the Great Lakes. As of Thursday, the Great Lakes as a whole are 88.4% covered with ice. Here is a map that shows the extent of the ice coverage:
Here specifically is the map for Lake Michigan, which is over 80% covered in ice.
Speaking of Lake Michigan, here are some aerial photos taken by Sheryl Deweerd while she was on a recent flight. The first picture is at the intersection of U.S. 31and M-104. On the right is Spring Lake, and on the left is Grand Haven.
Temperatures will be rising next week, so the ice coverage should slowly start to shrink. For the latest on the warmup, join us on FOX 17 News or visit the weather page at http://www.fox17online.com/weather
