BENSALEM, Penn. (CNN – Feb. 14, 2014) — Many vehicles wrecked on the Pennsylvania Turnpike about 15 miles north-northeast of Philadelphia on Friday morning, stopping traffic on the eastbound lanes for hours, police said.

The wrecks began around 8 a.m. ET between Willow Grove and Bensalem, Pennsylvania, CNN affiliate KYW reported. Twelve to 20 vehicles crashed in one area of the turnpike Friday morning, and accidents involving a smaller number of vehicles happened in two other areas, Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Kevin Rathman said.

KYW reported that the turnpike was slick, with freezing rain having dropped in the Philadelphia area. But so far, authorities have not attributed the crashes to weather, Rathman said.

No one has died, Rathman said; information about injuries weren’t immediately available.

Shortly before 10 a.m., Rathman said it could take three to four more hours before the turnpike is cleared of the wrecked vehicles.
