PAW PAW TOWNSHIP, Mich. (Feb 15th, 2014)- Two people were arrested after a traffic stop in Van Buren County, yielded a loaded hand gun and marijuana.
According to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department, a vehicle was pulled over on I-94 near 46th street after a deputy observed various traffic violations. After the deputy stopped the driver, the deputy smelled marijuana from inside the vehicle. When the driver was removed from the vehicle, the deputy then question the driver about the presence of drugs inside the vehicle, which the deputy later confirmed.
The deputy then searched the vehicle and found a loaded 9 mm handgun in the glove box along with marijuana inside the vehicle. The driver a 28-year-old male from Flint, was found to be a felon out of the state of Texas, with previous drug charges, and had lied about any past contact with law enforcement.
The suspect also had his 3 small children in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
As the investigation continued, it was discovered that the front seat passenger, a 24-year-old female from Flint, was also in possession of marijuana and had a warrant out for her arrest in Genesee County. The female passenger was cited for drug charges and was later released.
The male suspect was arrested for felony firearms violations, drug possession, and traffic violations and is at the Van Buren County Jail.
The children in the vehicle were not harmed and the report will be forwarded to Child Protective Services for review.
