LOWELL, Mich. (February 16, 2014) -One person is dead after a crash involving two vehicles on the I-96 overpass along Alden Nash Avenue near the Lowell Exit.

Police said two women were pushing a mini-van that ran out of gas when the driver of a pick-up truck rear ended the van Saturday night. Troopers said Tonya Beha, 36, from Lake Odessa, died at the scene.

Michigan State Police officials said the driver of the pick-up truck, Jay Hobbs of Lowell, 48, ran into the woods but was later caught, arrested and taken to the Kent County Jail. Troopers said alcohol was a factor in the crash. Troopers said Hobbs was arrested for OWI causing death and leaving the scene of a fatal crash.

Police say there were seven people in the van including children. Multiple injures reported.  FOX 17 was told Aero Med responded to the crash. Victims were taken to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids.
