MECOSTA COUNTY, Mich (February 21, 2014) – A 40-year-old Remus man remains behind bars after being charged with Attempted Murder and Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm after a domestic dispute ended with the stabbing of a 2-year-old on Wednesday.

Deputies with the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office were called to a home in the Chippewa Hills Trailer Court in Wheatland Township around 6:00 a.m.

Deputies found a 21-year-old woman had been assaulted, suffering wounds to her throat and neck.  A 2-year-old boy was stabbed in the chest, and a 4-year-old boy was threatened with a knife at the home as well.

All three of the victims were transported by EMS to the hospital for treatment.  The woman and the 4-year-old were later released, but the 2-year-old was later taken to Devos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids for treatment.

At the scene, deputies arrested 40-year-old James Getz of Remus, who was officially charged Friday.  He’s being held at the Mecosta County Jail.  Deputies say the victims that were assaulted were his live-in girlfriend and her two children.

Alcohol and narcotics appear to be factors in the dispute according to investigators.
