Elliot Michael Indiana captureLAPORTE COUNTY, Indiana (February 21, 2014) – Michael Elliot, the man who escaped from the Ionia Correctional Facility and was captured in Indiana following a 24 hour manhunt will remain in Indiana for now following an extradition hearing held on Friday.

Elliot was serving a life sentence in Ionia County when he escaped from prison, kidnapped a woman and made her drive him to Indiana, and stole several other vehicles before being captured in LaPorte County.

Right now, Elliot is being held on an auto theft charge in LaPorte County, but is also facing charges for the escape, kidnapping and auto theft in Ionia County.

Today’s extradition hearing had been postponed until an official letter from Governor Rick Snyder was sent to Indiana Governor Mike Pence requesting Elliot’s extradition to Michigan, which Pence has agreed to.

While being escorted to the courtroom for today’s hearing, Elliot apologized for the kidnapping, and reiterated his claim that he is innocent of the murders he was originally serving a life sentence for.
