Suspect Held Homeowner at Gunpoint and Sexually Abused Minor in Battle Creek

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (February 24, 2014) – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department says a 30-year-old Battle Creek man held a homeowner at gunpoint, then sexually abused a 14-year-old girl.

According to deputies, the armed home invasion and sexual assault happened 4:41 P.M. Sunday at a home on the 100 block of East Vanburen Street. Deputies said the suspect broke into the home then forced the homeowner out at gunpoint. When deputies got inside the home, they said they found the man engaged in a sexual act with the girl. Officials said they found the hand gun on the nightstand, next to the suspect.

The 30-year-old man was taken into custody for criminal sexual conduct, home invasion and weapons charges.

The Calhoun Sheriff’s Department used two search warrants because of this incident: one in the 200 block of Orleans Street, the second in the 100 block of West Street.
