COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (March 1, 2014) – In just the last month in Kalamazoo County, Sheriff Richard Fuller says officials busted seven methamphetamine labs leading to eight arrests.

“There will be more charges coming and we are seeking more charges. So there likely is to be more arrests. Also we are making sure that we utilize our partners,” said Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller.

Friday at 11:45 P.M. police pulled over a car on Sprinkle Road near Comstock Avenue, found meth labs inside and arrested a 21-year-old. This bust lead to another arrest at 1:15 A.M. Saturday, when deputies used a search warrant in the 6200 block of East Michigan Avenue. Inside the home, officials say deputies found multiple meth labs, including meth and tools to manufacture the drug, a loaded firearm and a child.

“Child Protective Services are now involved. This will be the second case within a month that we’ve had to involve Child Protective Services in this area,” said Sheriff Fuller.

Sheriff Fuller says cracking down on meth has been an issue in Kalamazoo County for a long time.

“To say it’s growing might be a little difficult right now, but it is a constant that’s been going on for a while. That’s why right now we have some people that we are trying to dedicate extra time towards the issue,” added Sheriff Fuller.

However, Sheriff Fuller says meth labs are changing.

“What often misleads people is in the past, a lab itself used to be usually the size of a kitchen table with all of the components. Now an individual lab can be a one-liter pop bottle, and they’re just as dangerous as that full table I’m talking about,” said Sheriff Fuller.

Police agencies are partnered in an ongoing investigation and say they’re making a difference. Police ask anyone with any information to help.
