redwingsDETROIT (Mar. 5, 2014) — The Detroit Red Wings gain is the Grand Rapids Griffins pain.

The Red Wings acquired center David Legwand from the Nashville Predators in a deal just before the trade deadline. In return, the Predators received one of the Griffins top forwards, Calle Jarnkrok, along with Patrick Eaves and a conditional 2014 draft pick.

Jarnkrok was third on the Griffins in points with 36 (13 goals, 23 assists) during his first full season in the AHL. He was drafted in the second round of the 2010 draft by the Red Wings and was considered one of their top prospects.

The Red Wings were in desperate need of a center. Detroit is without Pavel Datsyuk (knee), Henrik Zetterberg (back), Stephen Weiss (groin), and Darren Helm (head injury). All four are centers or capable of playing center.

Jarnkrok spoke with the media after tonight’s Griffins 4-2 over the Chicago Wolves.
