Kalamazoo Public Safety unit nightKALAMAZOO, Mich. (March 7, 2014) — Eight people have been taken into custody, and a home has been condemned, following a two-day investigation into drug activity in Kalamazoo.

On March 5 and 6, as part of the Community Outreach and Problem Solving Division (C.O.P.S.), officers went to the home on S. Burdick St. after receiving numerous tips regarding the production of methamphetamine.  Officers stopped a vehicle that had left the home.  Three people inside that vehicle were arrested on outstanding warrants, as well as new drug-related charges.

The following day, an additional search was conducted, and when officers entered the home, they encountered “a strong chemical smell and heavy haze with a bottle producing a chemical gas.”

Five people inside the home were immediately arrested, including one of the same subjects who had been arrested the night before.  Once they determined the home was safe to further investigate, officers found a primary suspect hiding behind a dishwasher.

A total of six people were arrested from the home with charges ranging from out-standing arrest warrants to operating and maintaining a meth lab, possession of meth and frequenting a drug house.
As a result of this investigation, eight Kalamazoo residents were arrested on over 25 charges with the home in the 3900 block of S Burdick being condemned.
