ANTRIM COUNTY, Mich. (March 11, 2014) — Two cousins sparked an overnight police search in Northern Michigan over the weekend after they left to get McDonald’s milkshakes and didn’t return.

According to the Antrim County Sheriff’s Office, the two reportedly arrived at a McDonald’s in Bellaire at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8 but it was closed.

The driver, an 18-year-old woman, then used a GPS to find another McDonald’s, which took them about 12 miles away to Mancelona.

That McDonald’s was also closed.

Her GPS then directed her to a McDonald’s in Kalkaska County near Flannery Machine.  Upon arriving in the area, she discovered there was no McDonald’s, the sheriff’s office said.

At this point the woman and her 11-year-old cousin gave up on their quest for a milkshake and decided to head back, only to get stuck in a snowbank in a side road near US-131.

Officials say the woman lives in Ontario and was visiting her parents near Bellaire and didn’t have a cellphone.  Her panicked parents eventually contacted the sheriff’s department, prompting an hours-long search.

Meanwhile, the cousins spent the night in the car and the woman walked back to Flannery Machine to call her mom for help the next morning.  Deputies then went and picked them up.
