1404131GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (March 18, 2014) — A 20-year-old man is accused of roaming the halls of the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in downtown Grand Rapids and listening at guests’ doors before finding a woman to attack, according to police.

Keith Darrius Manders, 20, is facing felony charges of first-degree home invasion, second-degree criminal sexual conduct and assault with intent to commit sexual penetration, according to Grand Rapids Police Lt. Patrick Merrill.

Manders allegedly knocked on a woman’s door at about 1 a.m. March 8 and asked for toilet paper, then attacked her when she looked away.

According to Merrill, Manders groped the woman and intended to rape her.  She was able to escape without any physical injuries, but Merrill said she was quite traumatized by the attack.

Manders faces up to 20 years behind bars if convicted.  His criminal record shows he pleaded guilty to a larceny misdemeanor in January 2013.

Manders waived his probable cause hearing Tuesday in Grand Rapids District Court.  His next court date has not yet been scheduled.
