SPOKANE, Wash. & MILWAUKEE, Wisc. (March 22, 2014) — One did it with a historic perimeter shooting performance.

The other held off an upset bid that would have broken brackets everywhere.

Either way, Michigan and Michigan State are heading to the Sweet 16.

The two-seed Wolverines hit a team-tournament record 14 three-pointers en route to a 79-65 win over seven-seed Texas in the Midwest Region. Michigan moves on to Indianapolis, where they’ll play the winner of Sunday’s Mercer/Tennessee game on Friday.

In the East Region, four-seed Michigan State lost a double-digit lead to 12-seed Harvard late in the second half, but surged back for an 80-73 win to punch their ticket to the round of 16. The Spartans will play Friday at Madison Square Garden in New York City against the winner of Sunday’s Virginia/Memphis game.
