BRANCH COUNTY, Mich. — Several people suffered minor injuries when a school bus and a car collided Friday afternoon.
According to the Branch County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at the intersection of South Parham and Cranson roads in Bethel Township.
Laurie Wonders, 49, of Bronson was driving a Bronson Schools bus and was returning students to their homes. She was southbound on South Parham Road and stopped at the stop sign at the Cranson Road intersection when she failed to see an eastbound vehicle driven by Albert Metzger, 75, of Bronson and began to pull into the intersection.
As the bus moved forward Wonders saw the approaching vehicle and attempted to avoid contact. Meanwhile, Metzger saw the bus moving forward and swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid contact. The vehicles then collided in the eastbound lane of Cranson Road.
Several students on the bus complained of minor bumps and scrapes. All were evaluated by Lifecare Ambulance paramedics and sought their own treatment.
Both airbags deployed in Metzger’s vehicle. Metzger complained of minor pain to his right thumb while his wife, Margie Metzger, 68, a front seat passenger, complained of minor leg pain.
Joan Whaley, 60, a backseat passenger in Metzger’s vehicle and two infants in car seats were uninjured.
Branch County deputies were assisted at the scene by the Lifecare Ambulance.
