NEWAYGO, Mich. (April 1, 2014) — Dozens of dogs and puppies from Montcalm County will soon be up for adoption at a West Michigan rescue.

93 dogs are currently being cared for by the volunteers at Lake Haven Rescue on Pickerel Lake Road in Newaygo. Lake Haven Director Cheryl McCloud said that the dogs were surrendered last week by a breeder in Montcalm County.

Montcalm County Animal Control says despite giving the breeder, Renee Suschil, time she failed to pass inspection for a kennel license.

Animal control says Suschil had previously been cited in Kent County. On her website she talks about moving to Montcalm County after facing problems there for the amount dogs she had.

The township in Montcalm County she now lives in only allows three dogs in the home or on the premise.  Animal Control says Suschil chose to turn over the dogs instead of facing charges.

On her website she says she is devastated over losing the dogs and that she was trying to meet the requirements needed. Suschil told Fox17 she believes this never should have happened and she was working to get everything up to code.

Lake Haven Rescue is currently working to get the dogs proper veterinary care as some of the dogs needed surgery.

McCloud says some of the dogs should be ready for adoption in the next week or two. McCloud asks anyone wanting to adopt to fill out an application online before doing anything else.
