Bicyclist Struck By A Truck In Algoma Township

Rockford AxALGOMA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (April 5, 2014)- A bicyclist is recovering at a Grand Rapids Hospital after being struck by a truck Saturday afternoon on Northland Drive.

According to the Kent County Sheriff’s Department, the crash happened around 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the 10,000 block of Northland Drive just north of 12 Mile Rd. NE. 53-year-old Dale Slagle from Newaygo was riding his bike southbound on Northland Dr. near the shoulder when he was struck by a passing Ford F-150 driven by 36-year-old Ajay Grover from Caledonia.

Deputies say the bicycle’s handlebars and the man’s elbow were struck by the truck knocking Mr. Slagle to the ground where he was injured.

Mr. Grover was not injured and stayed on scene to help Mr. Slagle until first responders arrived on scene. Mr. Slagle’s injuries are non-life threatening.

Alcohol was not a factor and this crash remains under investigation by the Kent County Sheriff’s Department.
