HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. ( April 5, 2014) — More than 100 people became seriously ill after eating at the Wild Chef restaurant in Holland Township.

It remained closed Saturday as the Ottawa County Health Department continues its investigation.  The restaurant shut down early last week.

Matt Gostafson said that he feels a lot better than a few days ago, just in time for his family vacation.

Gostafson said that he got a special bonus at work and he wanted to use it by taking his girlfriend, Daynah Lente out on a special date.

“I thought, lets do a nice lunch. Where do you want to go? We haven’t been to Wild Chef. It’s fairly pricey, so we were like, well shoot let’s go and we went there, and had appetizers and our meals,” said Gostafson.

The couple says Wild Chef was busy last Saturday while they were there, and the food was great. It wasn’t until the next day they knew something didn’t sit well.

“I got so dehydrated. I’d take a drink of water and within 20 minutes I’d throw that water back up. It was bad. Then I woke up Monday after off and on sleeping, didn’t go to work,” said Gostafson.

Lente was sick Monday, and wanted answers.

She called the Ottawa County Health Department who told her that the couple wasn’t the only one’s who complaining after eating at Wild Chef.

Lente said that the nurse asked her several questions in detail, from where their table was located to what kind of vegetables they ate.

“I felt like I was hit by a bus. It was like my whole body ached. I had no energy. I could not even smell food without feeling like I was going to vomit,” said Lente.

With their spring break vaccation looming in the near future,  Gostafson said that he’s thankful their trip didn’t have to be cancelled.

“On Monday or Tuesday you were hoping, alright I got a week to feel better, but it didn’t seem like it was going to happen. I was getting worried that my stomach wasn’t going to feel right,” said Gostafson.

The couple said that they will now be more cautious when eating out, understanding there is never a guarentee.
