COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (April 8, 2014) — It’s finally opening day, and for the fans it couldn’t have come soon enough.

The park was packed with 7,128 people in the stands.

Everybody agreed that the atmosphere Tuesday night,  was more energetic than years before.

Sue Baker said that she’s only missed one opening day in the last 21 years.

“It’s just got an energy because of what happened, and I think everybody is going to rally. I think 2014 is going to be a fabulous year,” said Baker.

Baker said that like many, she watched in horror on January 3rd as the park went up in flames.

“No, Not our Whitecaps. It can’t be happening, but we rallied. They got it fixed. Here we are. It looks beautiful,” said Baker.

A group of 21 even held up a sign that read If we rebuilt it, they will come #neverindoubt.

“Over and above. It’s just an outstanding day. If you could see these people and what’s been taking place the last 79, 80 days, how hard they’ve worked. It’s just a phenomenal feeling just to see them come together,” said Kim Gilpin.

Whether they came for the food,  the game or both, many says its an all around good time.

“You can bring your kids here and there’s never any trouble. There is alcohol served, but people don’t get rowdy. It’s good family stuff,” said Lisa Pratt.

“I love opening day. There is nothing quite like it. The environment is ecstatic. Having a good time, and this is entertainment at it’s best,” said Kevin Timmer.

Some even got lucky enough to take home a foul ball.

“A foul ball hit off the ceiling up there and I came down and it was going towards our head, and just saw it and swagged it out of the air,” said Aaron Guerrero.
