sneakerBATTLE CREEK,  Mich. (April 08, 2014) — Lacing up a pair of shoes everyday is something many take for granted. Kellogg Community College’s Bruin Bookstore is collecting gently used athletics shoes through the entire month of April, Earth Month,  as part of a Sneaker Collection campaign.

The gently worn shoes will be donated locally, according to bookstore manager Catherine James, who added that those in rough shape will be given to Nike’s Reuse-a-Shoe program. It is designed to used the material from those worn out shoes to make sports surfaces, like tennis and basketball  courts along with tracks, athletic fields and playgrounds.

Shoes can be dropped off 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday along with 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays.

The collection corresponds with the Spring Sale that features all KCC clothing and gift items at 20 percent off for the month.
