COMSTOCK PARK, Mich (April 8, 2014) — While the fire at Fifth Third Ballpark in January was devastating, it gave the Whitecaps a chance to make some necessary upgrades before the season opener. One big change fans will immediately notice is the new souvenir shop.
The shop bears a new name, logo and location.
Capsized is now located right next to the ticket windows at the front gates. It is also three and a half times bigger than the previous merchandise shop.
“It’s been on our books as something we wanted to do and when the fire happened, it gave us the opportunity to say, hey, we want to move the shop from the third base side to behind home plate. Make it bigger, make it more accessible to the fans. It looks great!” explained Mickey Graham, Director of Marketing and Media at West Michigan Whitecaps.
Fans will find new styles and bright shirt colors for ladies, and new Under Armour brand sweatshirts and shirts.
“We always try to keep track of the different trends out there,” said Graham.
2014 will also be a big year for Fifth Third Ballpark because it’s hosting the All-Star Game. The merchandise shop is tapping into one of Grand Rapids’ most notable honors.
“One of the things we are trying to capture this year is with the All Star Game we are hosting in June, we are doing a Beer City theme. So, the logo looks like a beer and we have beer city merchandise,” explained Graham.
