KENT COUNTY, Mich. (April 9, 2014) — Jason Tappin, 34, died Tuesday after suffering medical complications at the Kent County Correctional Facility.
According to a press release from Kent County Sheriff’s Department, officials discovered Tappin was suffering from a medical emergency during a routine check at 5:30 a.m. He was transported to the hospital and later died.
His exact cause of death will be determined pending toxicology results.
Tappin had been behind bars since Feb. 3 for manufacturing and delivering a controlled substance and a probation violation, according to a release. He was assigned to the work release center March 11.
Tappin’s death was reported one month after another inmate, 35-year-old Tommy Varnado, was found dead in his cell.
