BATTLE CREEK, Mich (April 9, 2014) – Battle Creek Police say a man was arrested Wednesday for driving around in a stolen city vehicle while intoxicated.
Officers were called to the area of Fountain Street and Capital Avenue around 2:30 p.m., where the driver of a city vehicle told them he’d stopped in the area to check on the progress of a construction project.
After the check, he returned to where he’d parked the vehicle, but it wasn’t there.
As officers were getting details of what the vehicle looked like, a 9-1-1 call came in saying a city vehicle was driving erratically in the area of West Columbia Avenue and South LaVista Boulevard.
Dispatchers advised the 9-1-1 caller the vehicle had just been reported stolen. The caller was able to keep the vehicle in sight until officers arrived to make a traffic stop.
The male driver of the stolen city vehicle was taken into custody. Investigators say he’ll likely face charges for the Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated.
Investigators say the suspect was also wanted on outstanding warrants.
The name of the suspect hasn’t been released pending arraignment.
