CARVHOUSEKALAMAZOO, Mich. (April 11, 2014) — Some university students were jolted out of bed when a suspected drunk driver slammed into their house early Friday morning.

It happened on West Michigan Avenue early Friday morning.

Police say the suspect is a 21-year-old Kalamazoo resident who ran from the scene. Five Western Michigan University students were sleeping inside the house. None of them were hurt.

Police tracked the driver with a K9 unit, and he was found inside a house on Westbrook. The driver was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident, driving under the influence, and driving on a suspended license. It’s not yet known whether the driver was hurt.

Because of the extent of the damage from the crash, the house is considered too unstable and the students are not allowed to go back inside.

The crash also knocked down some power lines to the house. It appeared to be the only one without power.

Police are still investigating this one, and anyone with information is asked to call Kalamazoo Public Safety at 337-8994, Silent Observer at 343-2100, or www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
