Curtis, a former Major League Baseball player, was convicted in August 2013 of multiple counts of criminal sexual conduct involving those three female student athletes and is currently serving a seven to 15 year prison sentence.

The teenage victims said he touched them inappropriately during rehabilitative massages that the lawsuit says he was “untrained, unsupervised and unlicensed to perform.”

This new lawsuit accuses him of battery and “intentional infliction of severe emotional distress.”

It also accuses Lakewood school officials of not independently investigating Curtis, who was working as a football coach when the incidents occurred.

The federal court documents accuse the school district and board of education of violating students’ constitutional rights, “including their right to bodily integrity and their property right in education.”

The lawsuit also claims Lakewood Schools violated the educational amendments of 1972 and “failing to investigate reports of Defendant Curtis’s sexual assault and take action to remedy the discrimination caused thereby.”

The federal suit is seeking a total of $4 million, or $1 million for each count against Curtis and Lakewood Schools.
