Griffins’ Jeff Blashill Named AHL Outstanding Coach

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (April 15, 2014) — The American Hockey League announced Tuesday that Grand Rapids Griffins head coach Jeff Blashill has won the Louis A.R. Pieri award given to the the league’s outstanding coach.

Blashill has led Grand Rapids to a 46-22-2-4 record, good for 98 points, 2nd best in the AHL’s Western Conference.  The Griffins have had success on the ice this season while the majority of the players have been called up to the Detroit Red Wings for at least parts of the 2013-2014 season.

The Griffins are close to clinching a 2nd consecutive Midwest Division title, they have 2 games remaining in the regular season and currently own a 4 point lead over 2nd place Chicago.

Blashill led Grand Rapids to the Calder Cup Championship last season.

The Griffins final regular season home game will be this Friday night when they host Lake Erie at Van Andel Arena.
