GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (April 15, 2014) — The winter of 2013-2014 was record-setting, and even though we’re nearly a month into spring, we’re still setting cold and snow records.

The image above shows high temperatures Tuesday in West Michigan. Normal highs this time of year are in the upper 50s, but most areas Tuesday barely made it above freezing. In terms of high temperatures, this was the coldest April 15 on record.

  • Grand Rapids had a high of 35 degrees. The previous record for the coldest high temperature was 36, set in 1923.
  • Muskegon only hit 33. The old record for the coldest high temperature on April 15 was 35, set in 1944.

There is a chance of tonight’s low temperatures breaking records as well. The record low for Grand Rapids is 21, set in 1904, and the record low for Muskegon is 20, set in 1907.

Monday night’s snowfall was also record-setting. The total in Grand Rapids was 1.6 inches. The previous record was 1.4 inches, set in 1939.
