WindmillHOLLAND, Mich. (April 19, 2014)- The DeZwaan Windmill is back in operation after two years of repairs to the windmill.

The City of Holland hosted a dedication Saturday morning called “Turning of the Blades.”

The windmill has been been closed for two years as repairs were made to the 252-year-old windmill. Back in 2012 the windmill underwent work to replace the observation deck and support beams. In the process of that, the Dutch millwright who was overseeing the work discovered that the beam that spans the windmill’s cap was cracked and the windmill was deemed inoperable.

During the most recent repairs done to the windmill, the cap and turret were removed from the structure and rebuilt, including the 80-foot long vanes of the turret.

The DeZwaan Windmill is now open to the public at Windmill Island Gardens Park in downtown Holland.

The second annual  “Run of the Mill” 5K run/walk followed the dedication Saturday morning.
