Allegan Co. Sheriff’s Dept. Offering Boater Safety Courses

ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. (April 22, 2014) — The marine division of the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office is offering several boater safety courses this spring and summer.

Boater Safety Certificates are required for anyone between the age 12 and 15 to operate a motorboat in Michigan.  The certificates are also required to operate a personal watercraft for anyone born after Dec. 31, 1978.

Any adult supervising a child ages 12 or 13 while they operate a personal watercraft must also have a certificate.

Full list of upcoming classes:

  • Tuesday, May 6 and Wednesday, May 7, from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Wayland Middle School located at 701 Wildcat Drive in Wayland.  Contact Laurie at (269) 792-9153 to register.  Registration is required.  Participants must attend both classes to complete the course.  There is a fee of $10 payable to Wayland Schools.
  • Saturday, May 31, 8:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Green Lake Calvary Church located at 608 145th Ave., Caledonia in cooperation with the A-Round Green Lake Association.  No registration is required; just arrive before 8:00am.  Bring a pencil and a sack lunch.  No fees or costs.
  • Tuesday, June 17 and Wednesday, June 18, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Saugatuck Yacht Club. Registration is required. Contact Kari at 269-673-0500 x 4234 to register. Attendees must attend both classes to complete the course.  No fees or costs.
  • Saturday, June 21, from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm at Sandy Pines Resort. Registration is required.  Contact Mary at (616) 896-8318 to register.  Bring a pencil and a sack lunch.  No fees or costs.
  • Wednesday, July 16 and Thursday, July 17, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Saugatuck Yacht Club.  Registration is required.  Contact Kari at 269-673-0500 x4234 to register. Attendees must attend both classes to complete the course.  No fees or costs.
