MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. (April 24, 2014) — The Montague Fire District Chief is facing assault and firearm charges.

Dennis Roesler, 51, was arrested Wednesday after an alleged domestic dispute, according to Muskegon County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Tim Maat.

He is facing charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and possessing a firearm while intoxicated, Maat said.

The assault felony carries a maximum four-year sentence.   The firearms charge is a misdemeanor that carries a maximum 93-day sentence, Maat said.

Roesler’s bond was set at $7,000 Thursday in Muskegon County District Court.  As part of the bond Maat said he is forbidden from having contact with the victim and can only go to her residence to get personal belongings with a police escort.

According to James Marek, Roesler’s attorney, the accusations are a complete misunderstanding.

Maat said the weapon involved in the alleged incident was a handgun.  No one was injured.
