FOX 17. (April 28, 2014) — The record-setting slow start to the tornado season in the United States has come to a screeching halt. For the second day in a row, parts of the Deep South have been hit by deadly tornadoes.

The above picture shows the aftermath from a large tornado that hit Tupelo, Miss. on Monday afternoon. This storm hit a commercial area, with numerous businesses and structures destroyed. Because this is an ongoing weather situation, the extent of deaths and injuries remains unclear, but at least one person died in Mississippi this evening.

In Alabama, where tornadoes are ongoing, there have been three confirmed deaths in a mobile home park near Athens.

So far Monday, there have been 27 reports of tornadoes in the United States. Keep in mind that one tornado can result in multiple reports. For a complete look at Monday’s severe weather reports, click HERE.
