GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (April 28, 2014) — West Michigan welcomed a traveling exhibit called “The Eyes of Freedom” on Apr. 27, and it features life-sized paintings of the men of Lima Company 325, a group of reservists from Columbus, Ohio who served in the Iraq War.

Michigan Cremation and Funeral Care, on Linden Avenue, is hosting the exhibit, and Robert Christiansen of the organization said that he invited the memorial to Grand Rapids as a tribute to all veterans, especially those who served in the early wars.

Lima Company 325 was one of the hardest hit units in Operation Iraqi Freedom; they lost 23 marines in 2005. A local artist painted the pieces as a way to help the families of the fallen heal.

Opening ceremonies take place on Apr. 28 at 11 a.m. at Michigan Cremation and Funeral Care, and the memorial is open until Apr. 30.
