SCHOOLCRAFT, Mich. (April 29, 2014) — One person has died in a fiery crash in Kalamazoo County that shut down the northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 131.
The highway was closed all the way between U Avenue and Eliza Avenue in the north side of Schoolcraft, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
The accident, which took place around 6:45 a.m. involved southbound vehicles on US-131 at Lyons Street, said Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas. Several cars were stopped at the light when a PT Cruiser slammed into the back of the line. One of the vehicles hit flew into a power pole, flipped, and caught fire. It is believed the driver of that car, a male, was the one who died.
During the investigation, officials looked to determine whether a medical issue or inattentiveness contributed to the crash.
