VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich (April 30, 2014) – Investigators with the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office say a woman accused of stealing gifts from her own 4-year-old nephew is expected to turn herself in on felony fraud charges.

Angelie Janosky is facing felony credit card fraud and misdemeanor larceny charges when she’s arraigned at 7th District Court on Thursday.

Investigators obtained surveillance images linking Janosky to a theft investigation located at her sister-in-law’s home in Porter Township on February 13.

The day before Valentine’s Day, Janosky’s sister-in-law was expecting several packages that were gifts for her 4-year-old’s upcoming birthday party.  The packages included gift cards to Meijer and Kohl’s, birthday cards, a video game controller, candy, toys, clothes and other items.

The sister-in-law tells FOX17 some of those gifts were from the 4-year-old’s relatives living in Australia and Detroit.

She contacted UPS to confirm the packages were delivered the day they were supposed to arrive, but weren’t on the front porch at the home when she checked.

The sister-in-law was able to obtain numbers for the gift cards and contacted the retailers to get them replaced.  The retailers were also able to track transactions made with the stolen cards, obtaining surveillance video in the process.

Investigators say after the surveillance video was obtained, they confronted Janosky about the allegations, who admitted to stealing the gifts.  She told investigators she’d used the cards and threw away the other gifts in fear of being caught.

The sister-in-law tells FOX17 she’s known Janosky about 10 years, and says Janosky worked a paper route in the area the same day the gifts were stolen.  The victim’s home was on Janosky’s route according to the sister-in-law.
