VICKSBURG, MICH (April 30, 2014) – Districts in Kalamazoo County are looking ahead to Election Day as school funding hangs in the balance.

Administrators at Vicksburg Community Schools are taking a unique approach to raise awareness about a $15 million bond proposal that will be on the ballot May 6.

Students are featured in a YouTube video to show the buildings in various states of disrepair.

Homes with an assessed value of $112,000 will cost the homeowner an additional $84 a year.

The district says the money will be spent on building improvements, security upgrades and to bring technology up to date.

“Obviously, when we first look at it, $15 million is a lot of money, especially with the economy the way it is,” said Lisa Beams. “We really wanted to look at what they were doing.”

That bond proposal won’t be the only issue on the ballot that provides money to schools in Kalamazoo County.

Voters will also see a request to renew a millage for all nine districts in the county.
