STARKE COUNTY, IN (April 30, 2014) – A routine traffic stop in northwestern Indiana last Thursday put a woman in the hospital, then in jail on felony drug charges.

36-year-old Kelly Koranda was stopped along U.S. 35 in northern Starke County for a traffic infraction, a state trooper also assisted at the scene.  That’s just southwest of South Bend.

Both officers became suspicious after noticing signs of impairment while talking to her.  She was taken to a nearby hospital for a blood and urine drug screen, where a nurse found Koranda had been hiding what was believed to be heroin packets in her underwear.

Authorities later learned after questioning Koranda that’s she’d swallowed ten packets of suspected heroin prior to being stopped.

After searching her vehicle, authorities found a total of 172 baggies of suspected heroin, weighing approximately 36 grams.

Koranda was later admitted to the hospital for observation after consuming the suspected drugs.  She was arrested after her release on Sunday on felony drug charges.
