GRPD Officers Assaulted After Responding To A Fight Call; Another Officer Involved In Traffic Crash

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (May 3, 2014)- Two Grand Rapids Police officers received minor injuries after being assaulted by two teenagers.

According to the Grand Rapids Police Department, the two officers were responding to a fight in progress in the 3700 block of Camelot Drive SE around 11:30 p.m. Friday night. When the officers arrived on scene, they found a 17-year-old male and a 17-year-old female in the middle of a fight. While attempting to arrest the the male suspect, the female suspect assaulted the officers. A struggle ensued and the two officers received minor injures.

While that was happening another GRPD officer was responding to that scene when that officer was involved in a traffic crash. According to the Grand Rapids Police Department, the accident happened in the 3200 block of Kalamazoo Avenue SE. The officer was attempting to make a U-turn when the officer’s patrol car was struck by a Toyota SUV. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage in the accident. No injuries were reported in the crash.

The officer involved crash is still being investigated.

The teenagers were arrested on assault and resisting arrest charges and are awaiting arraignment in a Kent County Court.
