From Spring Arts to New Bark Parks; What’s Happening Around West Michigan

relayWEST MICHIGAN (May 16, 2014) — It’s getting closer to summer and this weekend is packed with plenty of events no matter where you are in West Michigan.

Spring Into the Arts in Battle Creek kick the weekend, Friday. The one-night event helps promote downtown businesses as well as cultural and artistic works by artists from West Michigan to Europe.

Relay for Life Rockford is one of the largest Relay for Life events in the state. The event celebrates cancer survivorship, remembers loved ones and fights back against the disease.

Girls on the Run 5K weaves through downtown Muskegon, Saturday. It marks the end of a 10-week program which promotes health and well-being for girls ages eight to 13. Come cheer on more than 1,000 young runners.

The Holland Farmers Market Chef Series kicks off Saturday. Each week, the popular Series features a talented local chef, caterer or vendor who will demonstrate how to incorporate the fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and other ingredients available at the Market into healthy, creative and easy-to-make dishes.

The 26th Annual Great Lakes Kite Festival takes flight over Grand Haven this weekend. You can watch world-famous stunt kite fliers perform, test fly some of the year’s newest kites or bring your own. The event is free.

March for Babies Holland will bring hundreds of runners downtown to raise money for babies health. All the money raised stayed in the community.

Covell Dog Park officially opens in Grand Rapids, Saturday. It’s been two years in the making and invites people and their pups out to get some exercise. It’s located at the corner of Covell NW and Bridget Street NW and is just the second dog park within the city.
