LANSING, Mich. (May 16, 2014) — State Corrections Director Dan Heyns announced this morning that Grand Rapids Police Chief Kevin Belk has been appointed to the Michigan Department of Corrections Parole Board.

Right now, Belk serves as Police Chief but he will be retiring on May 30th.

“I am honored that Chief Belk has accepted an appointment to the Michigan Parole Board,” said Daniel H. Heyns, Director of the Michigan Department of Corrections. “Kevin has a tremendous reputation and proven track record of enhancing public safety in West Michigan. The Parole Board will absolutely benefit from his unique perspective, knowledge, experience and passion for the criminal justice field.”

Belk has served as the Grand Rapids Police Chief since 2008 and has been with the department since 1980.

Chief Belk is appointed to fill the remaining term of former Parole Board member Thomas Combs who accepted a new position within the Department of Corrections in April 2014. Belk’s appointment is effective June 9, 2014, and runs through April 14, 2015.
