Rare, Mysterious Deep Sea Fish Washes Ashore

NAGS HEAD, N.C. – A rarely seen deep sea fish washed up on the beaches of North Carolina on Monday evening.

WGHP-TV reported the Lancetfishwas found in Nags Head.

These fish have long slender bodies (up to 6 feet in length) with oversized eyes, mouth and a large dorsal fin. They are believed to eat planktonic crustaceans, squid, and salps, as well as other fish.

They live in oceans all over the world and are often caught by tuna fishermen.
