GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (May 17, 2014) – Michigan has one of the highest rates of people living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), according to the National MS Society. During the annual Walk MS 2014, organizers said about 1,200 people participated in the growing West Michigan event. Organizers also said this year’s walk will raise more than $75,000.

Many teams walked in honor of loved ones with MS, including Team Ashleigh Marie, “iCRUSH.” They walked for the young Kentwood mother, Ashleigh Marie Looman, who’s battling MS, and for those fighting MS who cannot walk.

“There are so many people here in West Michigan who are wheelchair-bound, cane-bound, or house-bound: I’m walking for those people today to show them they’re not alone and to show them we’re here for them; that I’m here for them too,” shared Ashleigh.

The National MS Society hosts 15 walks and four bike events throughout the state each year. Walk MS teams can make donations through the end of September. For more information on how to get involved, or to donate, visit the National MS Society website.
