GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., (May 23, 2014) – After the worst flooding to hit the Balkans in more than a century, the Bosnian community in Grand Rapids has organized a donation drive to help those affected by the disaster.

Members of the youth group at the Bosnian Cultural Center began collecting items like food and clothing on Monday.

“We just want to do everything we can to help people back home because we know they need a lot of help and a lot of food supplies and a lot of anything they can get,” said Admira Besic, a member of the youth group. “This is not just happening here, it’s pretty much in any state in the United States, and any other country in Europe. Wherever you have Bosnians they are doing this for our people back home.”

Thanks to donations from the community, enough boxes have come in to fill a truck. Besic said they planned to ship the items next week.

Donations are still being accepting at the Bosnian Cultural Center, located at 2839 Eastern Ave. SE, through Sunday.
