BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (May 25, 2014) — A 51-year-old woman was seriously injured Sunday morning after being attacked by a dog in the 50 block of Spring Street.

According to police, a pit bull was tied to a small tree in its owner’s yard, got loose and bit the woman repeatedly.  She suffered severe injuries to her abdomen area.

The woman was able to get the dog off of her once, but it attacked her again, a release said.  The owners were able to pull the dog off and secure it until emergency crews arrived on scene.

The owners were issued a citation for the incident and the case was forward to the attorney’s office for review.  They voluntarily turned the dog over to animal control.
