KALAMAZOO, Mich. (May 27, 2014) — A 13-year-old boy has died following a shooting on the south side of Kalamazoo.
Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the area of Lay Boulevard and Race Street at 7:08 p.m. on May 26 for a report that shots were fired. When they got to the scene, police found the boy, identified as Michael Day, 13, of Kalamazoo, with a gunshot wound to his upper torso. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to school officials, Michael was a student at Milwood Magnet Middle School. They will have support staff for teachers and students throughout the week if needed.
