BawFZLdCIAAT_l3GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (May 28, 2014) — Shane Chambers was found guilty by a Kent County jury of raping and beating a 77-year-old woman last September.

According to Grand Rapids Police, a jury on Tuesday found the 31-year-old guilty of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and first-degree home invasion.

He faces up to life in prison when he’s sentenced July 2.

The victim testified that at approxmiately 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 19, 2013, she was beaten unconscious and woke up several hours later to find that her underwear had been removed.

The Kent County Prosecutor’s Office also said that a nurse examined the woman and found that she had been raped.  The nurse said that the woman was beaten so severely that her eyes were swollen shut.

Another woman also testified against Chambers for a sexual assault that happened more than 10 years ago.  According to the prosecutor’s office, the 74-year-old Macomb County woman said that Chambers sexually assaulted her for more than four hours.

He was convicted in that crime and sentenced in March 2004 to between eight and 20 years in prison.  He was paroled in June 2012.

An admitted drug dealer and several people found in a Bates Street crack house also testified in December 2013 that Chambers allegedly sold stolen goods that matched the description of missing items from the 77-year-old’s home.  These included a purse, jewelry and credit cards, according to the prosecutor’s office.
